2005 part 1

raise up your hand if you think you were the one who started spreading the maiden thumbdrive virus.

it was a weekday. a normal weekday in Year 1 2005.
we were still in Phoenix Park. it was the first semester and mommy got me a thumbdrive.
it was the in-thing then. it was on offer, $71.95 for 512MB. (original price was $82)

so it was then 2 to 3 months old. and i was still new to RP and PBL.
on that normal weekday, i went to do some researching on Midtown Madness 2. i was downloading patches, bus models, add-ons for that game.
my thumbdrive was plugged in but there was no folder in it.

"adam, can you send me the PPT?" Weitong asked

so i uploaded it to the thumbdrive and found an unknown ravmon.exe file in it.
i clicked on it but nothing happened. and then i realised i couldn't delete it.

"nah, the PPT's inside (the thumbdrive). and can you try help me delete all the files in it? theres a random file i cant delete" i said to Waitong while passing him the T-drive

and he as well, couldnt delete it.

"PK, can you help me try delete the random file?"
PK tried but failed.

and this is Joe, the old laptop. wonder how he is.

so i asked quite a few people to help but to know avail.
little did i know, that the Ravmon.exe file was spreading via my 512MB thumbdrive.

for the next few days, "Eh, this one virus ah?" someone echoed from a corner of the class
"...hmm, its called RAVMON.EXE"

my eyebrow raised itself automatically.
i looked up. and i pretended like nothing ever happened.
and oh, my thumbdrive died by then.
but at least it didnt die in vain, it left a legacy.

even in 2006 when we moved to RP Woodlands,
"who started the thumbdrive virus ah? im gonna kill that person" someone in class said
"they said the virus from China one eh" another echo

and in my head, i was saying, "but it was from a Hong Kong website..."
